Northside Church of Christ
History
On April 10, 1892, two acres of land was donated by Captain Patrick after learning of the search of 64 year old A. Tate Miller and his wife Martha for a suitable place of worship. The location was near the Miller's rural home about five miles northwest of Waxahachie. This provided a central location for the communities of Sardis, Long Branch, Valley Grove, Ovilla and Waxahachie. Thus, was the beginning of the congregation your are worshipping with today. The name "Patrick's Chapel" was appropriately given to designate the homesite of the church and local community. At this home the congregation proclaimed the good news, worshipped their Savior, and ministered to the saints and folks around them for 54 years. The hands of time intervened, however, and the decision was made to move to Waxahachie. With a new name and location the Southside church of Christ represented by a group of 20 people began to worship at 911 S. Rogers St. in September 1945. The building was constructed from the lumber and pews recycled from the Patrick's Chapel building. The leadership was provided by the shepherds H. Loyd Curby, W. Tom Allen, and Alexander Campbelll Miller (father of Louise Miller). In 1955 the auditorium was enlarged and classrooms were added to accommodate growth in numbers. Again in 1972 the auditorium was enlarged along with an addition of a foyer. Then in 1981 after 36 years of service at the Southside meeting place, plans were made to sell the old building and to make a strategic move toward the population growth and shift on the north side of town. The building you are in today is the result of this strategy. On August 2, 1981, the fellowship of believers began their work of service here in this facility referring to themselves as the Northside church of Christ. In 1984 the building was enlarged to accommodate a fellowship hall and classroom space; and again in 1986 more classrooms were built as well as a nursery. During this period H. Loyd Curby and Herman Giles served as elders for the congregation.
